OFFICIAL MDGF RULES OF PLAY
These rules govern all sanctioned Mini Disc Golf play under the Mini Disc Golf Federation (MDGF). All players are expected to follow the PDGA Official Rules of Disc Golf, with the following MDGF-specific exceptions for Mini-Disc play set forth below.
Article I — Equipment Regulations
1.1 - No mini disc exceeding 4.5 inches (11.43 cm) in diameter may be used in sanctioned play.
1.2 - No mini disc weighing more than 51 grams may be used in sanctioned play.
1.3 - Only mini discs manufactured entirely of plastic are permitted. Wooden, epoxy, and metal discs are strictly prohibited.
Article II — Throwing Stance
2.1 - The player's lead foot must remain in contact with the tee spot at the moment of release
2.2 - No run-up or step-up is permitted on any throw
2.3 - Following release, a player may follow through or "jump tee" off the tee spot.
2.4 - Jump putts and falling putts are permitted outside 10 meters (32.808 feet) from the target.
Article III — Putting
3.1 A putt is considered good when the mini disc comes to rest on top of the basket.
Article IV — Out of Bounds (OB)
4.1 Out-of-bounds areas and their governing rules are determined by the course owner or designer.
4.2 In general, out-of-bounds throws are played from where they lie.
Article V — Water Hazards
5.1 Water hazard areas and their governing rules are determined by the course owner or designer.
5.2 The mini disc is spotted directly in-bounds from the lie, and play continues.
Article VI — Tree Hazards
6.1 The 2-meter rule does not apply in Mini Disc Golf.
6.2 If a mini disc comes to rest suspended above a structure and has not fallen or made contact with the structure by the player's turn, the disc is spotted perpendicular to the lie, no closer to the pin. No penalty stroke is assessed.
6.3 If a mini disc comes to rest suspended beyond an OB line, the player is assessed a
1-stroke penalty and must spot the disc directly below the lie to continue play.
6.4 If the mini disc comes to rest suspended over OB water, the player is assessed a
1-stroke penalty; the disc is spotted directly in-bounds from the lie, and play continues.
6.5 If the mini disc comes to rest on top of the basket and is partly suspended by a tree, the putt is considered good.
Article VII — Building and Roof Hazards
7.1 Any mini disc landing on the roof of a designated building is deemed out of bounds. A 1-stroke penalty is added to the score, and the player throws from a drop zone designated by the course owner or designer.
Article VIII — Lost Mini Discs
8.1 If a mini disc is lost during daylight play, the player is assessed a 1-stroke penalty. The player marks the lie closest to where the disc was last seen, with the approval of the group or official, and play continues.
8.2 If a mini disc is lost during glow play, no lost-disc penalty is assessed — provided the disc was glowing and a spotter was utilized. The player marks the lie closest to where the disc was last seen, with the approval of the group, and play continues.
